Interactive sodium tool
Nutrition Label Sodium Calculator
Enter the sodium listed for one serving, the amount you actually eat and, if useful, the servings in the package.
How to interpret the result
The result is an estimate based on the values you enter. Reference comparisons provide context, not a personal sodium prescription.
Medical information limits
If you have a medical condition or an individualized sodium restriction, follow guidance from your qualified healthcare professional. Read the medical disclaimer.
How this tool works
The Nutrition Label Sodium Calculator estimates sodium consumed when you eat more or less than one labelled serving. It can also estimate whole-package sodium when the number of servings per container is supplied.
Inputs
- Sodium per labelled serving in milligrams (mg)
- Number of servings eaten
- Optional servings per container
- FDA, WHO or custom comparison reference
Method
Total sodium = sodium per serving × servings eaten. Reference percentage = total sodium ÷ selected reference × 100. Whole-package sodium = sodium per serving × servings per container when that input is supplied.
Assumptions
The label sodium value and serving information are current and the number of servings eaten is estimated correctly.
Limitations
Reference percentages provide context. They do not determine an individualized medical target.
