Custom Sodium Reference Calculator

Compare a sodium amount with a reference value you enter. This is useful when you already have a sodium limit or reference from a qualified healthcare professional and want help with the arithmetic.

What the calculation means

The calculator divides the sodium amount by the reference value you entered and multiplies by 100. It can also show how many milligrams the amount is below or above that reference.

What the calculator does not do

Avoid Salt does not decide what your personal sodium limit should be. If you have hypertension, kidney disease, heart failure or another condition that affects dietary advice, use the amount given to you by your doctor, registered dietitian or other qualified healthcare professional.

General references are still available

If you do not have an individualized reference, the daily sodium reference guide explains the FDA, U.S. public-health, WHO and American Heart Association figures shown elsewhere on this site.
